Activities

Gaelic Games

The school is represented in the Fingal Schools League by a senior boys, junior boys and a senior girls team. Training for the teams resumes in January, Tuesdays 2.45-3.45pm for the girls and Wednesdays 2.45-3.45pm for the boys.

The football finals will be played in May and June in Parnell Park. Senior matches will begin in March, weather permitting. Junior matches will begin after Easter.

Creative Schools Initiative

We participate in the Creative Schools Initiative. A Creative Schools associate works alongside our children and staff to encourage creative projects. We celebrate Craft Days and learn to play instruments such as the ukulele.

Choir

The choir perform in a Christmas concert every year!

Green Schools Committee

In 2006 we were awarded a Green Flag for their efforts in  reducing waste. In January 2008 the first Green Flag was renewed, and the school were also awarded a second Green Flag for their efforts in reducing energy usage in the school. Well done to Ms McGonigle and all the children in helping realise this achievement. We have since earned a Green Flag for Water Conservation and another for Sustainable Transport. Our next flag will be for Biodiversity.

Digital School of Distinction

Our school has been recognised as a Digital School of Distinction. Technology is part of how we learn in school. Our classrooms are equipped to a high standard with Activ Panels and visualisers. We use GSuite and Google Classroom to enhance our children's learning.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Glacaimid páirt i Seachtain na Gaeilge gach bliain i rith Mí Márta. Déanann gach rang dán nó amhrán sa halla dona ranganna eile.

Cumann na mBunscol Santry Athletics

Teams will compete in Morton Stadium in Santry from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes

Fingal Athletics League

Representatives from 5th and 6th class participate in the Fingal Athletics league.

Student Council

Pupils from 5th and 6th class represent the pupils of the school on the Student Council.

St Benignus Day

St Benignus Day is celebrated every year on 9th November.

Anti-bullying Week and Friendship Week

We celebrate positive relationships through our Anti-bullying and Friendship Weeks. This is part of our preventative strategies that underpin our Anti-bullying Policy.

Science Week

We celebrate Science week in November every year. We also participate in the Science Live exhibition in the RDS.

Maths Week

We have activities for Maths Week in October every year.

Christmas Performances

Each class performs a Christmas play for the school and the parents in December of every year. The Parents' Association also arrange a visit from Santa to all the classes as well as an evening time Christmas Quiz for all the family.

Active School Flag

The school has earned two Active School Flags. We have an Active Week every May with Sports Day being the high point!

Scholastic Book Club

We support the Scholastic Book Club in our school with brochures sent out in October, March and May.

School Book Fair

We run a book fair, for children and parents, in the school in November/December every year.

Swimming Classes

Children in 3rd class have the opportunity to participate in Swimming Lessons as part of the PE curriculum in the second term of the school year.

Irish Dancing

Irish Dancing is taught in the first term of the school year as part of the PE Curriculum.

School Photographs

Junior Infants have their photographs taken in the first term each year. Photographs for the rest of the school is done on an annual basis around March every year. The purchase of the photographs is optional.

School Tours

All our classes go on their annual school tours. Other trips take place in addition to school tours for particular classes to support their learning.

Communion and Confirmation

As a Catholic school, children who wish to receive First Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are prepared in partnership with the Parish Team while in second class. Those children who wish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are prepared in partnership with the Parish Team in sixth class. Dates for the Sacraments are available from the Parish Office.

Standardised Testing/Annual Report Card

Standardised Testing in the areas of Reading, Spelling and Maths takes place in classes 1st-6th in May every year during Standardised Testing Week. Our Annual Report Cards are sent to parents/guardians in June. The Report Cards contain the results of the Standardised Testing as well as a written report on the progress of each child.

Induction Meeting for new parents

An Induction Meeting for new parents, primarily for parents of the Junior Infant Class of the subsequent school year, is held each year during the month of June. This is followed by a classroom visit by the new pupils shortly afterwards.
