All classes have a minimum of 60 minutes timetabled PE per week.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The children wear their school tracksuits on these days.

The PE Curriculum is broken up into 6 strands: Aquatics, Athletics,

Games, Gymnastics, Dance and Outdoor and Adventure Activities.

Aquatics

The children in 3rd class have started their swimming lessons in

Aura Leisure Centre Drogheda which will run for a block of 6 weeks.

The classes that don't attend swimming lessons cover the aquatics

strand through the Land Paws Water Safety Programme.

Athletics

We cover the athletics strand in the third school term when the

weather is nicer and we can use the grass areas more. We work on

the skills of running, jumping and throwing using a range of

equipment such as hurdles, skipping ropes, javelins, batons, dicuses, balls

and bean bags.

Games

As part of the games strand we work on the skills of ball handling, kicking

and carrying and striking. We have a variety of equipment available to help

our students develop these skills such as basketballs, soccer, Gaelic and

rugby balls, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, cricket bats and balls.

Gymnastics

We are very lucky to have a range of gymnastics equipment that we set up

in the hall to cover the strand of gymnastics. The children explore and develop

various types of movement using monkey bars, balance beams, trampolines,

various sized pommel horses and mats.

Dance

All children receive Irish Dancing lessons from Sinéad Lightley for a block of

9 weeks during term 1. Each class is also assigned a folk dance to work on

and perform. The emphasis is on enjoyment and involvement and exploring

different ways our bodies can move.

Outdoor and Adventure Activities

We cover this strand during the last term of school when the weather is nicer.

The children take on a variety of outdoor challenges. The senior classes have

done orienteering with coaches from Fingal and have provided us with O.S.

maps of the school for further lessons.
